Celebrities

Working up at Sundance has given me a unique oppertunity to meet some "famous" people. At first it was a thrill, an absolute joy to meet them. I felt overwhelmed "in the presence of greatness". But as more and more come in, after 1200 pizza runs, after hissy fits about snow covered walkways, Ive come to realize that they are not all theyre made out to be. What do they really offer society. Nothing! For the most part they are a continuation of the High School popularity game on a much bigger level. They have no marketable skills or agenda for change. They are like waves of the ocean. When theyre comming we say, wow, thats big; and they are big for a while. Then they come rolling in in all theyre fury and fizzle out to nothingness. Remembered only by their deaths. And just like the wave we can be sure that another one will come rolling in and another after that.

Profound!I've run into several celebrities up at Sundance and you are right. After I get over the excitement of seeing someone that I see on the movie screen I realize that they are just people and not very productive ones at that.

that was beautiful. pop culture is, in a lot of ways, a scourge on our society. my roomie and i were talking the other day about famous celebrities without huge emotional, personal, or mental complications, and we couldn't think of any...

That's very interesting. I can't remember ever seeing a celebrity but I hope one day I can. If they aren't up to what you say they are then I guess I would just want to see one to say I have.

Celebrities do have a marketable skill. Look at Seinfeld. He can make people laugh and the entertainment industry is there for a purpose. We always look for entertainment and they can market the skill. But then again, there are talented people that are not well known but still provide that service. I just wish they would get over their god complex.
